The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has hired a former FBI director to support its retail and regulatory investigations.
Michael Welch had previously run the FBI’s international operations and was most recently head of Standard Chartered’s internal investigations, according to Bloomberg.
Welch joined the FCA director of retail and regulatory investigations this month.
Welch, moved to London with Standard Chartered in 2014 after a 30 years working at the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
At Standard Chartered, Welch was group head of shared investigative services.
The unit includes former spies, police detectives, compliance officers and bankers, who are accredited with the City of London Police.
