It was a busy 2022 for The Compliance Company team and 2023 is shaping up to be an even busier one. We haven’t had the opportunity recently to spotlight on the people that make our business so great. So, we spoke to The Compliance Company CEO, Ian Beardmore, about his career, the team and what 2023 has instore for The Compliance Company.

Having worked in Compliance under the FSA at The Co-operative Motor Group when the change from the OFT to the FCA was announced I felt that there would be an opportunity to help retailers with this transition both from an applications perspective and then ongoing support.

We have regular meetings to discuss what we are doing and were we are going, we also reflect on what we have done and what we can do better.

What is the last thing you’ve learned on the job?

The personal interaction with clients and being involved in the day to day running of the business reminds me of the importance of staying connected with the business and the team.

New Order – Blue Monday it is on one of my Spotify playlists, I bought this as a teenager on 12inch vinyl!

How would you describe your leadership style?

Collaborative, I like to hear different views to make an informed decision

What was the path you took to get to where you are today?

I left school at 16 started an apprenticeship as a motor vehicle technician, switching into then working in service and parts departments, spending some time in mobile phone manufacturing and then moving back into the motor trade in car sales working my way through to management roles eventually in a head office role looking after a multitude of operations including finance and insurance and ultimately compliance.

What do you want to achieve in the first 100 days of 2023?

Having re-structured in 2022 it is important to focus and develop our new strategy and have this embedded by the end of Q1.
